Contains 34 pages, 23 photos, and 23 illustrations
Cost: $18.00 ... Includes shipping & handling ... will not be insured unless requested.
If you have never coiled a thing or can't figure out how to do the basic stitches, this
booklet is for you! The information that will not only get you started but also let you
finish unlimited number of pieces on gourds or wood. It will also teach you how to sew
your stitches where they will be straight on both sides ... not just one side.
Have you ever wondered where you are suppose to insert the needle in the back of the
piece as well as the front. This booklet contains detailed instructions and examples for
both the basic stitches (Pain, Split, Wheat, V, Fern, and Back Stitch) using thin threading
(upholsters & waxed linen) and wider threading (artificial sinew). It will also explain
starting out and coiling the first row with separate instructions for a gourd & wood,
hiding beginning & ending threads, & finishing off the last row. I've also added
instructions off how to do Floating Coils and how to coil over the holes drilled into the
gourd.
This booklet gives information concerning the handling of the pine needles ... gathering,
storing, drying, preparing for coiling, and removing the caps. It also addresses various
types of treading, gauges, sewing needles, & supplies you will need. Helpful tips are
given throughout the booklet of experiences Hellen has had with coiling as well as other
coilers.
Pattern Included -- Blueberry Delight ... Hellen added to the booklet already. This piece
is done a 1/4" thick 9" round board. She uses a V stitch throughout.
Comments:
"I've been coiling for about five years so I don't consider myself a beginner. I found
this booklet to be one of the most detailed informational books I've bought. The
illustrations and instructions leave no doubt where you "stick that needle" as Hellen
says. You can learn from just following the illustrations and not reading the
instructions. Hellen gives enough information in the 'Material and Supplies' section
to answer anyone's questions. I just love her comments and tips. She even lets you
know where to get the supplies. The layout of the booklet and inspirational pieces are
outstanding. Well worth every penny I paid because a coiler can make just about
anything with this booklet.

Hellen is an award winner of this process. She will be teaching a class at the Texas
Gourd Society's Long Star Gourd Festival in October 18-19, 2008. She felt she will be
teaching a class she might as well go ahead and write the booklet. The piece she will
be teaching is at the left. The booklet will teach you all the basics, where to get
supplies, patterns, and pieces to inspire you. She loves doing this process even though
it is very, very slow. You wrap 4-ply wax linen around a paper coil on top of a gourd.
This type of process gives her American Indian pieces that extra touch.
You can see this type of process on her Southwest/American Indian pages.
If you are interested in being notified when the booklet is finished, please send her an
